8 Ways to *Get Your Confidence Back*

Confidence is probably one of the most valuable things that we have. Someone who oozes it, and is cool and collected in how they hold themselves is definitely the type of person who I aspire to be. It’s a quality that can take you as far as you want to go in life. Having the confidence to go up and introduce yourself to someone you don’t know, or being able to hold a conversation without doubting yourself is worth so much, in my opinion.

I think taking a little knock in your confidence can be really difficult to overcome. January was an all-over-the-place month where I felt like I was constantly chasing my tail in all aspects of my life. Following on from one of my recent posts where I talked about ways to stick to your new years resolutions, I thought that this post could be useful for when nothing works, and you just get stuck in one of those little life ruts. When I’m feeling unproductive I really start to question why I bother with a lot of things which obviously has a negative effect on everything else. But today, I feel like I’m getting back into the swing of things, making big plans and 100% sure that I’m going to follow through on everything I promise myself!

Here’s a few things that I think are good to bear in mind when you’re trying to regain or just gain some more confidence.

Stop Caring

One of the worst things about putting yourself out there – whether its for work, on social media, or with a little blog, is that no matter how hard you try, you’re never going to appeal to everyone. There are always going to be people with an opinion that you won’t like. At the end of the day, if I’m feeling particularly self conscious for whatever reason, I just remind myself that I’m never actually going to know what people say behind my back. And what I don’t know can’t hurt me, so I’m just going to keep going!

Social media break

The benefits of a social media break are undeniable. I think I give myself a headache from having my head stuck in my phone constantly. Going for a brisk walk with no technology really gives me a chance to align my thoughts and actually start thinking for myself. This is something I know I need to do more.


When I’m going through a phase of skipping the gym but at the same time, still following every supermodel on the planet on Instagram, something has to give. This time around it was Instagram, haha. When I’m feeling more motivated I’ll probably start my stalking all over again. If you’re feeling a bit worse for wear, and out of shape, the last thing you want to see is a Victoria Secret angel sprawled out on a beach. No thank you, unfollow.


Like I said above, I’ve been putting off joining my new gym for about 3 weeks now. I swear, every night I pack my bag for the gym in the morning and without fail I’ve been pressing snooze. Finally I bit the bullet last night and forced myself to go and I’m so glad I did. Now I’m feeling 10 times better!

Don’t reach for the sugar

You will not thank yourself later if you comfort eat excessively. I often get into a mood where I’m literally not caring about one thing and I just eat whatever I’m craving, but every single time I regret it. The times when I resist are definitely the times when I feel way better about myself and my self control!

Write down 3 things you are grateful for 

Sometimes I really need to remind myself of where I am, and how lucky I am to be here. Living in New York at 24 with very few cares in the world is something that I’m so grateful for, it’s hard to describe. And the fact that I got here myself, after a year of hard saving and sacrifices, makes it so much sweeter. Taking a step back and really looking at what and who you have around you is so motivating to keep working hard.

Talk to someone who loves you

Every day on the way to work I call my mum for a chat, and nothing lifts my mood like it! Hearing someone’s voice that I miss really sets me up for the day the right way, because you just don’t feel so far away when you keep in regular contact. Being on the other side of the world from my family and friends can really get to me sometimes, which definitely is a mood dampener. In reality, they’re the people who believe in me the most, so I just need to remember that I’m lucky to have them.

Think about why you started & your end goal

A lack of confidence in what you are doing at a given point in time is really just a hiccup on the bigger scale of things, so just think about why you started what you’re doing to help get your motivation going again to continue to work harder and better.
