How to Have a Productive Morning

Is there anything more annoying than planning to hit the gym every morning at 6am but instead you sleep through your alarms and end up rushing out the door at 8.45am, inevitably late for work? The answer is yes, there definitely is more annoying things in the world. But in all seriousness, this is something that keeps happening me lately and it’s so frustrating.

I genuinely would call myself a morning person. I’m never up at 5am or anywhere to close to it, but I like to hit the gym every morning before work, and I usually find it easy to do so. But this week I’m in such a funk with my sleeping pattern and I genuinely do think that the heat arriving in NYC has a big part to play. It is sucking the life out of me and this is NOT GOOD! I mentioned in my last post that we have a weekend away in The Hamptons booked for two weeks time and I’m using this as my motivation big time. But sometimes you need more than a faraway bikini goal to literally get you to stand up in the mornings. I’m going to talk about a few things I’m going to try now.

Try to get up early on the weekend

Last weekend I did some serious sleeping and while it was definitely needed and did me the world of good, it got my body into the habit of wanting to stay asleep until 11am, as opposed to 6.30am (which is the time I need to be up at!). I think the best trick is to sacrifice a  night out and just go to bed extra early on a night that you need to catch up on sleep. I’m talking literally 8pm bedtime. It’s a full on guilty pleasure of mine to fall asleep at that time!

Have something to look forward to

I found mini cans of cold brew coffee in Trader Joes and I don’t know what it is about them that makes me love them so much, but they literally make me jump out of bed in the morning when I think of them. I was telling the girls in our group chat and I’m pretty sure that no one even responded because I was so passionate about how much I love them, haha!

Pack your bags (obviously)

This needs no explanation.

Figure out your exact timeline

I can’t tell you the amount of times I have rushed out the door in the morning and if I had just gotten up literally 6 minutes earlier I wouldn’t be under half as much pressure. I’ve now worked out the exact amount of time it takes me to get up and dressed, walk to the gym, work out, walk home, shower, do my make up, get dressed, make my breakfast, eat my breakfast, get out the door, and make it to work for 9am. I’m definitely the kind of person who needs things to be seriously broken down for me to see the benefit of something. That, and I’m exceptionally lazy sometimes.

Anyway, I hope that you found this post helpful. Have a wonderful weekend!
