Laser Hair Removal With Therapie

Last week I started my laser hair removal treatment at the Therapie Clinic in Newbridge. I’ve been getting laser hair removal since I was in college in Galway and Therapie have always been the experts in my eyes.

For this set of treatments, I opted to have the hair removed on my legs, arms and underarms. Previous to this, I have had the hair on my bikini and lip removed. I had six sessions for both areas, and over the years have had top up treatments too. You’re probably already aware that I lived in New York for two years, and over this period of time I didn’t require any top ups so it was amazing to not have to worry about those two areas at all for that long. Laser Hair Removal with Therapie Clinic, Niamh O'Sullivan

The Consultation

If you’re interested in laser hair removal, you should book yourself in for a free consultation in Therapie. During the consultation, they will examine the area that you wish to have lasered. You need to leave a certain amount of hair there that isn’t shaved or waxed. This is so that they can examine how light or dark your hair is. The darker the hair and the paler your skin – the better chance you have for successful long term results. The one thing to bear in mind is that there is a chance that hair removal may not be an option for you – this could be for a number of different reasons. If your hair is too fine or blonde, or you have certain underlying medical conditions. That’s the great thing about the free consultation though, they’ll be completely transparent about what will and what won’t work for you, so you can decide what you want to spend your money on. They will also do a patch test which will test how your skin reacts to the lasers – make sure to take note if anything seems out of the ordinary here.

The Process

Before your first laser appointment, make sure to have absolutely no natural or fake tan on your body. You will get a course of at least 6 treatments for the area, these will generally be every 6-8 weeks. After your treatment, make sure to keep your skin cool as it will be sensitive. Avoid hot showers, exercise and tight clothes. Your skin will feel irritated and sticky from the gel that is put on it during the treatment but it’s short-lived so don’t worry.

One thing you need to absolutely avoid before, during and after your treatment is waxing. Waxing pulls the hair out of the follicle, and this is what the lasers are working to break downed reduce, so waxing essentially means you will have to start over. Therapie recommend sticking with laser hair removal until you achieve the results that you are after. After each treatment, the hair growth will decrease by about 30%, so this really is a dramatic decrease in my opinion and in my experience.

First and foremost, Therapie are currently having a “1 cent sale” on laser hair removal for the month of February! So, if you purchase laser hair removal for one part of your body, you get another area for 1 cent. Usually prices will be more affordable for existing customers, but I would always recommend going in and seeing what is the best deal that they can offer you within your budget. The consultation is free so it’s no harm to go in and chat with an expert. Laser Hair Removal with Therapie Clinic, Niamh O'Sullivan

Is it sore? – This is very dependent on the person in my opinion. As the technology that Therapie uses progresses, I’ve noticed that the new machines are significantly more bearable than before. My best advice would be to make use of the stress ball that they provide, and communicate with the technician who is taking care of you when things become too sore. I just constantly remind myself how worth it it all is. Another major point to take into account is that as far as I know, you feel pain a lot more if you’re on or about to get your period, the body is apparently a lot more sensitive. Try and arrange your appointments around this.

Pigmentation – I got a question from one girl who was worried about pigmentation if she was to get laser hair removal on her lip. I personally did not find any issues with this luckily enough. I think that it can be something that people experience if they are not incredibly careful in the sun. I’m very cautious in the sun, especially my face – I always have at least factor 30 on and if I ever (albeit a rare occasion) lie out in the sun, my face is always covered. Therapie have great products to help you with this if this is something you’re concerned about.

The six sessions – It is recommended that you make sure that your six sessions are done within the timeframe that Therapie recommend, this is the best way to ensure you get the best possible results.

Top Ups – I have gotten a handful of top ups for my bikini and lip. As these are hormonal areas, it comes with the territory unfortunately. I’ve changed my pill more than once since I started the treatment on these areas and this definitely does affect hair growth. Also, sometimes if you are on certain medications, this can have an effect on hair growth too.

Redness & bumps – We’re all too familiar with the pain of shaving the same area day after day. Thankfully, when you get laser hair removal, you don’t need to shave over and over. The hair growth is reduced with every session. For example, I shaved my legs, arms, and underarms before my appointment last Wednesday and haven’t shaved my arms and legs since – they’re still perfect! Underarms are different as the hair growth is very different, but as the treatments go on I have no doubt that this will totally reduce. Laser Hair Removal with Therapie Clinic, Niamh O'Sullivan

Disclaimer: Therapie Clinic kindly invited me to document my experience with them in return for complimentary treatments. Previous to this, I have already undergone and fully paid for the first set of treatments that I got when I was in college in Galway in 2014, so I was delighted to come on board this time around and share this on the blog. I mentioned before that I saw great success with the first two areas that I had lasered, so I expect the exact same results this time around. You can be sure that I will document this experience with full transparency, and I am happy to answer any and all questions that you might have. Thanks for reading xxx

It’s good that you pointed that one should finish at least 6 sessions of laser hair removal to see the results. I was hoping to get a laser hair removal for my underarms to avert the regular plucking of hair which may cause irritation. I’ll bear this mind as soon as I figured the best aesthetic treatment provider that will perform this procedure for me. Thank you!
