Last week, my friend Sadhbh and I visited the Lyrath Estate Hotel in Kilkenny for a Galentines / Palentines (whatever you want to call it) getaway. I didn’t really know what to expect, other than an outdoor thermal pool, which was exactly what I felt like I needed…I have to say, I was blown away by our entire experience to be quite honest. I left feeling so refreshed and recharged. We’re already planning a trip back. Read on to find out why…
We stayed in one of the luxury suites in the hotel. I still can’t get over how gorgeous our room was, it left me speechless when we walked in. When I was putting this post together, I was checking out the different room rates out of curiosity, and I would highly suggest looking into booking one of the suites. They have a “Suite Deals” pop up on the website at the moment, and I promise you if you can nab one, you will thank me later. The room itself was incredibly spacious, and felt so luxurious. We had two bathrooms, and a gorgeous living area to relax in when we weren’t enjoying everything else that the hotel had to offer. The bathroom was full of goodies from Rituals, one of my favourite body cosmetics brands. The bed was so comfy too, very important!
Food & Drinks
We ate in the Grill and Bar, and we were pleasantly surprised at how lively it was. Midweek hotel breaks can sometimes be hit or miss when there is a sort of dead feeling around the place. But the Lyrath was full of people and it made for a really nice atmosphere. After a lovely dinner, we made our way to the hotel’s pub-style bar, Tuppers. I couldn’t get over the cosiness of this snug little bar in such a modern hotel. I loved it! We sat in front of the fire and enjoyed a few drinks and chats. Again, there was a great buzz in the bar which gave it such a nice feel, I didn’t want to leave!
Ok, my favourite part of the whole stay: THE SPA…I had no idea it was famous for being so highly rated. It has won numerous awards and I can totally see why. They offer a range of different treatments, which you can learn more about here. We should have looked into it and booked ahead, because I would have loved an excuse to stay all day long. The outdoor thermal pool is where we spent too much time, and I’m honestly tempted to head back down for a day trip just to float in it all day long. The thermal pool costs 15 Euro per person (must be booked in advance!), but as far as I know, you can use it when you book in for any other treatment. That 15 Euro also covers the use of relaxation rooms, tropical showers and more – so it is well worth it.
The Lyrath Estate Hotel is just an hour from me here in Naas, and about 90 minutes from Dublin. It feels like a really quick spin down, it’s basically motorway the whole way. The Lyrath is also just under 10 minutes from Kilkenny, and lots of people were so kind and sent along lots of great suggestions for places to visit in the city (it’s crazy to me that Kilkenny is a city, it feels like a big town!). See below for all of the recommendations. Can we also take a minute to appreciate that the hotel has three resident golden retrievers?! My day was made when I saw them sitting outside when we arrived!
Lunch / Dinner:
- Statham’s by Pembroke
- Rive Gauche
- Ristorante Rinuccini
- The Grape Vine
- Paris Texas
Things to do:
I visited with my bestie, but there was plenty of couples there too. It’s perfect for either! I also feel as though it would be a great spot to visit with a group of friends. Especially if you wanted to enjoy a night out in Kilkenny while you are there – it’s a great place for a few drinks.
A huge thank you to the Lyrath Estate Hotel for hosting us for our midweek getaway, it was such a gorgeous treat & I can’t wait to come back!
