The Best Money I Ever Spent

Last week on my Instagram I asked you what the best money you ever spent was. I found it so interesting seeing people’s responses. The idea to ask the question definitely stemmed from my recent learnings about fast-fashion. My whole mind frame has completely shifted to thinking long term, about what will see me through different seasons and what will withstand the test of time.

I wanted to share the different things in my life that I feel was well worth the investment. It’s so hard to think of just a few things, so I’ve broken them down into categories. Experiences had be included as well as different bits and bobs that surprised me… Enjoy!

Investments:

Gucci Loafers – I picked these up back in February in Brown Thomas, and to say I’ve already worn them to death would be an understatement. However, the reason they are on this list is because they are still absolutely perfect and more comfortable than ever. Love love love! I will definitely be investing in another colour or in the slides in years to come. Shop here.

GHD – I can’t leave the house without straightening the frizz out of my hair. I would be completely lost without my GHD, it literally comes everywhere with me & I’ve had it for years. Shop here.

Babyliss Curler – My second hair tool that is always in my bag is my trusty curler! It cost me under 3o quid and I would not be without it. I genuinely use it every single day. Shop here.

Nespresso Machine – This was a really quick purchase for me and not something that I gave a lot of thought to because it was on sale and I didn’t have much time to consider. I thank myself every morning for being so impulsive that evening and diving right into my Nespresso filled future. I would not be able to not have one in my life! This is mine, but shop a similar one here.

Samsonite Suitcase – I’ve gone through about 4 carry on cases at this stage. Suitcases are not something that you can buy on the cheap in my opinion. I picked up my Samsonite in Kildare Village at the start of the year and it has seen me through every trip so far, my family also all borrow it – it’s so durable and brialliant. Shop loads of options here.

Camel Coat from Massimo Dutti – I wore this coat to death last year, had it dry cleaned in the Spring and it’s ready to go again! It is one of the most elegant pieces I own, obsessed! Shop similar here.

Monki Denim Mom Shorts – I purchased these shorts randomly on ASOS about two years ago, and they are the only ones I will wear. It’s hard to find denim shorts that don’t show a bit of bum, so the mom style versions are my favourite. Shop similar here.

Ugg Slippers – I got UGG slippers probably about 15 years ago for Christmas off my parents, and they are still going strong! They are 100% the best present to give/receive. Shop here and here.

Experiences:

Travel – I had to include travel. It’s one of my favourite things in the world, despite me being a home bird at heart. I’ve never travelled somewhere that hasn’t been worth it, whether it’s through incredible experiences, different cultures and food, or lessons learned along the way.

Moving – I moved to New York for two years almost three years ago and at the time it was so expensive. Between visas, flights, and set up costs – it is so expensive. I would never even question how worth it it was though.

Interview Prep Course – I thought of this one at the very last second. Years ago before I got my first “big girl job” I was interviewing left, right, and centre when I got out of college. It was “no” after “no” consistently and I honestly couldn’t take it anymore. A friend of my Dad’s ran a course in interview preparation, a one-on-one intense prep session, and it was hands down the best money I have ever spent. I’ve gotten every single job that I’ve interviewed for since – you would be so surprised what tips and tricks work! I’m not sure if the course is still running but if anyone is interested, let me know and I will find out!

The Things That Surprised Me:

Laura Mercier Setting Powder – I genuinely can’t remember when I bought this stuff because it was literally so long ago! I’ve never been so impressed by how long a product has lasted for me when I use it every single day. Shop here.

Silk Pillow Covers – My mum sent me over two pillow covers when I was in New York, and as they were en route to me, I randomly invested in two myself! Such a coincidence since we had never even discussed them! But I absolutely adore them. They’re supposed to be incredible for your skin, hair, everything! They’re so soft and add a gorgeous touch of luxury to your bedding. Shop here.

High Memory / Storage – I never knew what a difference this could make to my daily life. I have so many (thousands and thousands of) photos on my phone and laptop. Investing in space for them has saved me a lot of time deleting old snaps and has kept everything running smoothly and as quickly as ever.

Make-Up Brushes – I got a set of brushes from Rebeluna last year and am so impressed by how well they have lasted. I use them every single day and absolutely swear by them! Shop here.

Max Benjamin Fragrance Diffuser – You’ll know well by now if you follow me on Instagram how obsessed I am with my diffusers. We have them all over our house and they just smell divine. They say on the website that they last for 4 months but I honestly think they last so much longer! Shop here.

& last but by no means least….

Starting my blog…a weird one, I know. You may not realise just how much maintenance costs go into websites, into camera equipment, and just general upkeep with blogging and all of that jazz. My website originally started as an online CV, a way for me to show off my website and marketing skills to potential employers when I moved to New York. Fast forward over 3 years and it is now my full time job. I still can’t get my head around it, and I don’t think I will ever be truly able to relax (it’s still so new and unknown!). But yeah, you just never know where some paths might lead you…this is definitely money that I am so grateful to have spent!
