Ok so I am back with Volume 2 of my WhatsApp group recommendations. I was so pleased with how well the first one of these posts was received so I’m back with a whole pile of skincare recommendations from my friends.
Skincare is definitely a tricky thing to recommend for, as I feel like people with genuine skin problems can be quite vulnerable and easily influenced when people make recommendations. For this reason, the girls also included their skin types so it might be a little easier to relate. I also really can’t stress enough…if you have a skin condition or recurring problem, your best bet is to speak to an expert. I could not recommend Jennifer Rock (aka The Skin Nerd) highly enough. She is a fountain of knowledge when it comes to skincare, so if this is something that you really care about or need help with, then definitely sign up to her “Nerd Network” to get your personalised skincare consultation & plan.
I also really can’t stress enough how drinking plenty of water & a good diet is key if you want to improve your skin. I personally believe that a daily probiotic & multivitamin has majorly improved the quality of mine.
Here are the skincare products recommended by my friends…
Make Up Fanatic, 26, Kill (Born & Bred)
Chantecaille Face Oil – “If you win the lotto, I would recommend this.”
Glam B!tch, 26, Sydney
Trilogy Rosehip Oil – “So hydrating and really helps with blemishes.”
Neutrogena Youthful Boost Sleeping Mask – “These bad boys are brill for an extra boost once or twice a week. The blue hydrating one is class. I find just anything with hyaluronic acid amazing! And anything tea tree related for breakouts.”
Blue Jean Baby / Unofficial Ambassador for the The Ordinary, 27, Naas
Combination skin – dry and blemish prone
“All The Ordinary cause it is BEYOND belief cheap for the ingredients you get!”
The Ordinary Hyaluronic acid – “for moisture and fine lines”
The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% – “for brightening”
The Ordinary AHA + BHA peeling solution – “an exfoliating face mask once a week”
The Ordinary Salicylic acid / Niacinimide & Zinc – “for breakouts”
La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo – “it’s good for blemish prone skin and has a 30 SPF”
Princess of Naas, 26
Aveeno… (this girl has perfect skin and literally just uses Aveeno moisturiser…life is not fair)
Coraline, 27, London
Still working on the skincare routine…
The Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector – “This is currently my fave thing. My hands are noticeably better and even the lady doing my nails today was like your nails are get strong considering they’re a lil long.”
The Fro, 26, Vancouver
Aveeno Daily Moisturiser – “I’ve been buying that moisturiser for about 3 years it’s so hydrating.”
Diet Coke Connoisseur, 27, Naas
Dry/combination (depending on the month), tired, dull, post-baby skin
Mute of the Group, 27, London
Dry skin/chronic eczema
Health & Beauty Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay – “I swear by this clay mask. I mix it with apple cider vinegar and I can smell a bit (I’ve gotten used it it and now like it!) but it’s brilliant. You can feel it working on your skin tingling and I notice the difference the next day. You can also use it everyday cause I don’t find it dry my skin so that what I tend to do when I’ve a breakout but other wise just weekly.”
Thayers Witch Hazel Rose Petal Toner – ” I’m a big fan of toner cause I’ve pores the size of dinner plates. I love this witch hazel one which has rose and is cheap but I’m too disorganise to order ahead so when I’ve run out I use the Garnier one and I like it too. TOP TIP: I started putting my toner in a little spray bottle and spraying it directly onto my face instead of using cotton wool. It uses so much less and feels so refreshing and saves on waste so win win. I just use this crappy cheap one but I love it.”
Garnier Skin Active Micellar Water – “A lot of cleansers can irritate my skin but this one is gentle but doesn’t actually feel oily like you’d imagine it would.”
Buffy Body Butter – “Exfoliating my skin can be hard cause it can randomly react to stuff but this much one is great cause it’s a moisturiser aswell. Also it smells beaut.”
Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula – “I could write on a book on hand creams cause I genuinely have to buy a new one every week or so but Aveeno and this one are my faves.”
Fair Skinned Maiden, 27, Kill
La Roche-Posay Effaclar A.I. Breakout Corrector – “It kills spots. They disappear.”
Tomato Lover, 27, London
Oily / combination skin (she thinks)
Astral Face & Body Moisturiser – “A golden oldie- but can be v thick so not that often.”
Kiehls Deep Pore Cleansing Mask – “Have started this a while ago once a week and it’s v v good”
Normal / dry skin
My Clarins RE-FRESH Hydrating Beauty Mist – This is probably the product that I use the most. I have one in my desk & one in my car & every single time I think of it, I spritz my face to help keep it hydrated throughout the day. You can spritz over make up too!
My Clarins RE-CHARGE Relaxing Sleep Mask – My skin can go through bouts of being incredibly dry, I really love this sleep mask. At the moment I use it every second night! It smells gorgeous and feels so soft on my skin.
Environ Colostrum Gel – This was recommended to me after a consultation with The Skin Nerd. Jenn referred to it as liquid gold so that had me sold. It’s a serum so should be applied before moisturising on to clean skin.
Environ EssentiA AVST Moisturiser – Another serum recommendation. This contains retinol which apparently is a key anti-ageing ingredient to have in your skincare routine. **(Environ products are generally recommended through consultations so maybe speak to an expert before purchasing as I know that they are expensive, so you want to make sure that they suit your skin.)
Cleanse Off Mitt – The handiest thing to have in your washbag. I use this to remove my make up and then to take cleanser off.
SPF!!! I wear suncream every single day without fail, it’s the most important thing we can have in our skincare routine.
**Side note for total transparency…I am currently working with My Clarins on a social media campaign, which I am so thrilled about – the entire range is just gorgeous. This blog post is nothing to do with the campaign and my personal recommendations for this post are, as always, true & genuine. My friends opinions are all their own. Just wanted to flag it in case anyone was wondering :)**
I really hope you enjoyed this post, there will be lots more like it! & thanks to my wonderful friends for helping me put this together.
